Bronwen Day Part 4 - School Carnivals, Uniforms, Teen Zone, Community Projects, Holidays and Shopping, Newman Artists
In this podcast Bronwen Day, in conversation with Lisa Rickert, recalls more highlights from her teaching career in Newman - including Swimming and Athletic Carnivals and the Houses/Factions . There were originally no school uniforms, but they eventually were brought in. The school also had a Teen Zone where students could go and chill. She remembers how her students were engaged in many different projects eg the Shire of East Pilbara Banner and a mural on the Capricorn Grandstand. Bronwen also repaired the Stations of the Cross in the Catholic Church. She recalls Holidays and Shopping in Hedland and Broome, which led to the Art Camps being held there. She also reflects on the many artists who lived in Newman, including Christina Rasmussen, Steve Sheahan and Don Byrne, who used ochre as his medium.
