Newman town was originally constructed to house the workforce for the iron ore mine located on nearby Mt Whaleback. The town was raised from the red dirt desert of the Pilbara and many of the residents reflect on those experiences in the early days, as the town evolved from its early beginnings

He played a major role as the trainer of the presenters, as he was the only one in town with any online radio experience. He remembers the first broadcast when he was on air live. He also remembers the names of many of the presenters and the style of music they played. He discusses the techie people who made it all happen and tells about NEWR9 TV station. He also recalls the first telephones in Newman.
