Newman town was originally constructed to house the workforce for the iron ore mine located on nearby Mt Whaleback. The town was raised from the red dirt desert of the Pilbara and many of the residents reflect on those experiences in the early days, as the town evolved from its early beginnings

In this podcast Trevor and Ann describe their community involvement. Trevor was Newman Club President and even managed the Club for a while. They were both involved in the P&C for the Primary School. Trevor was also involved in the Cricket club. Some of his more unusual jobs were to clear the dead animals from the roadside when the Manager's wife was arriving. And also to drive his car down the runway at the airport, in front of the plane to clear the roos away. He also describes how he took the picture of the glider upside down over Newman.
