Newman town was originally constructed to house the workforce for the iron ore mine located on nearby Mt Whaleback. The town was raised from the red dirt desert of the Pilbara and many of the residents reflect on those experiences in the early days, as the town evolved from its early beginnings

They later moved to Perth again and Margaret River.

Their children were involved in the Swimming Club and Soccer and the Clay Pidgeon Club. Ron also had a role as the Second Councillor on the Shire. Ron also describes his role in the Accounts Department and the Warehouse. They also recall their little pug dog and their relationship with Ivan and Joan Gunn.
