Newman town was originally constructed to house the workforce for the iron ore mine located on nearby Mt Whaleback. The town was raised from the red dirt desert of the Pilbara and many of the residents reflect on those experiences in the early days, as the town evolved from its early beginnings

Her son David was one of the policemen killed in a tragic plane accident just outside Newman, and since then the Newman community has supported her family, and the families of the other policemen, through the Bloodyslow Cup - now called the Bloodyslow Games. She describes her son and his life until then, and recalls especially his excellent relationship with the aboriginal community.
