Newman town was originally constructed to house the workforce for the iron ore mine located on nearby Mt Whaleback. The town was raised from the red dirt desert of the Pilbara and many of the residents reflect on those experiences in the early days, as the town evolved from its early beginnings

She also remembers the fires that went through and how they were encouraged to just let the horses go free.  Her family was involved in the Newman Gymkhana and Polo Cross Club which ran regular events and competitions.

She attended Newman Primary, then NSHS and shares her memories of those days.She especially remembers her love of horses and the freedom she discovered as she rode through the Pilbara bush. She also remembers preparing her ponies as they provided the pony rides at the Fortescue Festival.
