Ben Stoddart Part 1 - Arrival in Newman, First Impressions and Living in the Fairways

In this podcast, Ben Stoddart, in conversation with Lisa Rickert,  recalls his arrival in Newman with his wife Lisa, after leaving Darwin. He describes his various jobs, ending up with Workpac in Newman. He also tells of his first impressions of the town and how he felt that he fitted there. His first accommodation was in The Fairways and he remembers moving in there.

In this podcast Britt McDonald (Clampett) recalls the facilities that were available to her in Newman, the new Rec centre and the Y. he also describes the shops that were there and the highlight was the opening of the nightclub! Her memorable person was Ken Wilson from the Horse Club. She recounts another story about her adventures on riding the horses in the bush.

In this podcast Britt recalls her first job in Newman.  She vividly recalls some cyclones that went through and how they had to rescue the animals out at the horse yards. She also remembers the fires that went through and how they were encouraged to just let the horses go free.  Her family was involved in the Newman Gymkhana and Polo Cross Club which ran regular events and competitions.

In this podcast Britt McDonald (nee Clampett) recalls her move to Newman when she was 7 years old and how her Dad had a job in Health and Safety at the Mine. She attended Newman Primary, then NSHS and shares her memories of those days.She especially remembers her love of horses and the freedom she discovered as she rode through the Pilbara bush. She also remembers preparing her ponies as they provided the pony rides at the Fortescue Festival.
